How to know if you have a slip-and-fall case

On Behalf of | Mar 31, 2022 | Personal Injury

If you have injured yourself due to a slip and fall, you may be going through a lot. Your physical injuries can lead to high medical bills and leave you struggling to provide for yourself and your family.

Understandably, this can be difficult to deal with. By educating yourself about your situation you can learn whether or not you could benefit from filing a lawsuit.

Know the liabilities

When it comes to slip-and-fall injuries, a property owner has a responsibility to keep his or her premises reasonably safe for visitors. Unsafe conditions could include puddles of water or unclean spaces. If property owners fail to maintain safe premises, they could be liable for any injuries that occur because of these hazardous conditions. However, if hazards are clearly marked and you still become injured, then you may be at fault.

Know the common injuries

If you are still unsure whether or not you have a case, then you need to consider the kinds of injuries that you have. Common injuries due to slipping and falling include broken legs, broken pelvis, brain damage and back injuries. Scrapes and bruising can also occur, but these may not be enough on their own to have a strong case.

After a slip and fall, you will need to act quickly if you want to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Take pictures of the scene of the accident, ask for witness statements and save your medical records. Thorough documentation may be necessary for a successful outcome for your case.
